Villages - Will I Fit In?
Villages are clusters of friends throughout the community that share their lives of faith. While we gather weekly to worship as a celebration of God's creative activity in our lives, Villages are where the big stuff happens.
People typically discover a relationship with God out of encounters with his people. The Village is an environment where we can actively share life with those you are struggling to know God.
What does a Village look like? Villages are made up of 6-20 people who work together to develop their own rhythms and activities. Usually a village will meet a several times each month for spiritual conversation, service and connection with friends. Twice each month the Village gathers for spiritual conversation based on a small passage of Scripture or a good book or a life experience. Typically the groups will read a small portion of scripture and ask a series of thought provoking questions meant to help individuals see God and his ways for our lives in the Scripture. Once each month the Village gathers for a focused mission or service project. Typically a project could be gift wrapping at the holidays, raking a neighbors leaves in the fall, serving in a soup kitchen, preparing care packages for missionaries. The list of potential project is endless and will be determined by the gifts and creativity of each unique village. A Village gathers regularly for a party to reconnect with friends and enjoy the blessing of conversation, food, and good company. How do I join a Village? The best way to find your way into a village is to join us at a weekly worship service and the clusters discussion time afterward. There you will meet the people of Varina Nazarene Church and can develop relationships that will lead to finding a group naturally. While we will not place you in a group, we will do all that we can to help you find your fit in a Village if you are having trouble. This is our way of preserving the relationship that are developing and ensuring that everyone in each Village is best able to grow toward God, in relationship with others, and in love with their neighbors.
